On Thursday (23.10.25), Steam released a major update allowing users to upgrade five Covert items into a knife or gloves. This instantly created massive market volatility, prices dropped by 40%, and traffic on Tradeit skyrocketed to over 15x our normal load. The sudden surge caused system delays, crashes, duplicate reservations, and temporary pricing security triggers.
Here’s what happened and how we’re addressing it:
1. Steam Reversals by Previous Owners (4,993 items)
Due to the update chaos, some users who had previously deposited items on Tradeit manually reversed their trades on Steam. When they did, Steam canceled the trade and returned those items to them - including many that were already reserved by other users. You can confirm if this affected you by checking your Balance Transactions for a “Revert Credit” entry with the item’s asset_id.
These reversals happen completely outside our control, but we know how disappointing it is to lose an item you reserved. That’s why we’re going a step further and helping affected buyers get the items they wanted. We’ve already covered over $37k worth of similar cases to help affected users get the items they wanted. If you had an item that was returned to its previous owner, please reach out to support, and we’ll do everything we can to make it right.
2. Duplicate Purchases (117 items affected)
A small number of items were accidentally purchased by multiple users because our inventory didn’t sync correctly under the extreme traffic. In these cases, there won’t be an asset_id in your balance transactions.
This was on us, and we take full responsibility. We’ve already refunded the amount each user paid, so only one copy remains reserved. Since market values have been shifting rapidly by the minute, we’ve also reached out to offer fair adjustments where prices have changed. If you were impacted, please contact support so we can make sure it’s resolved properly.
3. Failed Transactions
If your top-up or purchase didn’t complete properly, it was due to the system overload during the traffic spike. We’re already tracking some cases and will make sure every affected transaction is corrected. If you experienced this, please reach out to support.
4. Price Adjustments & Volatility Protection
Our pricing system activates protective measures during high volatility to prevent fraudulent or manipulated activity. This can temporarily freeze or limit price changes. As the market stabilizes, prices are recalibrating to reflect fair market value.
If you made a trade during this period and regret it, or found a better deal elsewhere, reach out, and we’ll review it and do our best to help.
At this point, many prices on the site are likely among the best available across trading platforms.
5. Support Response Times
Due to the massive spike in support requests, response times may be longer than usual. Our team is working around the clock to reply to everyone as quickly as possible. No ticket is being ignored; it might just take a little longer to reach you. We appreciate your patience while we catch up.
This week hit everyone hard: traders, sites, and the whole CS2 economy. Now’s the time to show support for each other. We’re here, working hard to fix every issue and make sure our users come out of this in the best position possible.
